Since he’s reportedly declaring for the draft, an early look at his draft value. Some points:
1-Its a very weak RB crop in this draft, even if Eddie Lacy, Joseph Randle and Gio Benard declare for it. The top three prospects, right now, are Stephen Taylor, Mike Gillislee and Montee Ball. Production aside, all three are very similar style of runners and it comes down to who you think its best on the tape.
2-Preinjury, I would grade Lattimore as a late 1st/early 2nd prospect with the prior knee injury. Since, barring a miracle, Lattimore will be out for the next full year I think we can safely grade him as a 4th or 5th round talent.
3-Lattimore consulted with current NFL players and people in the loop of the draft, I think that the assumption that he’s gaged his draft value as a high 3rd day is a safe one.
It might be stating the obvious, but Lattimore probably will be taken high in the 4th round…maybe a flyer pick in the 3rd by a successful team who’s stable enough to stockpile talent. If I had to guess, I would guess this list of teams would be after him anytime after pick 80:
New England Patriots
Green Bay Packers
New Orleans Saints
St Louis Rams
Of course it goes without saying that if any scans of Lattimore’s knee turns out to show more damage then what was reported and he’ll go undrafted in a second.
